I have been meaning to start a new ‘Top 5’ blog series for a while now and I thought what better way to start it off with Foundations (actually, primers would make more sense but we will stick with foundations for now.
I just wanted to mention, that most of these are all of the higher end foundations, this is purely because it is very hard to find a drugstore foundation in my skin colour here in Australia.
Here they are, in no particular order:
MAC ‘Studio Sculpt’ Foundation this is a thick gel consistency foundation. I find a little of this goes a long way and I like to apply it with my hands and then finish it off with a beauty blender as it gives the nicest finish. It is a fuller coverage foundation, but can be sheered down a bit with the beauty blender if needed. It wears quite nicely, really good for dry skin as I don’t find that it accentuates any dry patches. As far as MAC foundations go, I would say this is my favourite one that I have tried as it doesn’t feel so heavy when wearing it.
NARS ‘Sheer Glow’ Foundation – This is one of my holy grail foundations. It’s one of those foundations that if I stop using it and decide to pull it out again I have one of those ‘Why did I ever stop using this’ moments and it soon finds it’s way back into my foundation routine. It is a light to medium buildable coverage but it just looks flawless on this skin. It wears well, doesn’t cake up or bring out dry patches. The only problem I would say I have with this is the colour range. I use Syracuse, but I do find that its my winter shade – I am yet to find the sheer glow in my ‘summer colour’
Benefit ‘Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow’ – this is soon becoming one of my holy grail foundations and I am surprised that I don’t hear that many people talk about it to be honest. I have never looked at benefit foundations till I started working for them and had to wear it for work. This really has been the biggest surprise for me. It’s a medium coverage that I find can be built up quite nicely. It is also a water based foundation so it really lets the skin breath. It almost feels like you are wearing nothing on your face, but still has great coverage. This is a dewy foundations so if you are an oily person it may not be the best for you. Even I find my nose gets slightly oily at the end of the day wearing this so a powder to touch up would be needed for those with combination skin. Saying that I really like the wear and feel of it on, so I can look past the slight oil situation
Ellis Faas ‘Skin Veil’ Foundation – This is the newest foundation to my collection and it moved straight to my favourite foundation list. The colour of this foundation matches me almost perfectly, it’s not too yellow, it’s not too pink, it’s actually perfect. It’s a liquid, but has a thicker, almost gel like consistency, similar to that of the MAC Studio Sculpt foundation. Its thickness leads to a fuller coverage and is long wearing. I am doing a full in-depth review and first impressions of this foundation coming up so I won’t go all that much into it here – lets just say I love it and leave it at that for now.
Makeup Forever HD Foundation – this is my favourite ‘Special occasion’ foundations. I wear this every time I have a special event to go to and I really love it. It’s what I wore on my wedding day and it looked flawless in photos. It’s a light to medium coverage which is buildable. It is also very lightweight and doesn’t feel like there is anything on your skin. Because it is a HD Foundation there is no SPF so no chance of that photographic flash back so if you are using this as your every day foundation, make sure you have SPF underneath to prevent sun damage. Another reason why I love this foundation is because it comes in 27 shades, from the whitest alabaster skin to the deepest darkest shade. I like that because I have it in 3 shades so I am covered from the middle of winter to the middle of summer when I get really dark and tanned.
So that is my top 5 foundations, it wasn’t really a hard decision coming up with these because they really are the only ones I have in my collection that the colour suits me, wears well and has the coverage that I like to wear.
Have you tried any of these?? What are your favourite foundations? – I’d love to hear what you love to leave a comment =)
