Bobbi Brown have the infamous shimmer bricks in their collection and have had for many many years. They are strips of colour which can be used individually as eyeshadows or swirled together to make a shimmery highlight. They have a following from many makeup artists around the world, and rightly so – they are stunning. I got the Bronze shimmer brick a few years back and I love it. It makes my skin have a radiant glow and the bronze shades suit my skin tone perfectly.
When I saw Sleek Makeup have a similar looking product in their collection, the Glo face and body Highlighters, I was intrigued and had to see what they were about. I have read a few reviews over time and Sleek have a few products in their collection which are dupes for more high end products. I opted to get the shade Bronze as I figured this would be the closest in comparison to my beloved shimmer brick.
It wasn’t until I actually got them both out side to side before I could see just how similar they are.
Both are in black squared palettes. The Bobbi Brown one is much thicker and has much more ‘packaging’ which makes it bulky; the sleek one, however, is more compact and, well, sleek. Both have large mirrors which I like about them. As far as the shadows go, the lightest shade is slightly more gold in the Bobbi Brown one, whereas in the sleek Glo it’s more of a shimmery white. The top two shades are slightly more shimmery, but the others are pretty much identical shades as you can see from the swatches below. Also the second last rose gold colour is actually a bit more pigmented in Sleek than the Bobbi Brown.
Getting down to the business side of things: Bobbi Brown shimmer bricks retail for $85 in Australia and you get 10.3gms of product (the same product is sold in the US for $45USD). With Sleek however, you pay $9.95 for 8.2gms of product from Lipstick Republic here in Australia. Now with the stories going around about cosmetics in Australia being incredibly inflated, this is a classic example of that.
Personally I actually prefer Sleek over Bobbi Brown in this product purely because the BB one just is that little bit too shimmery, and if you have read a few of my blogs or seen a few of my youtube videos you might have picked up that I am not too fond of overly shimmery products. So, for that reason I can see myself re-purchasing the Sleek Glo highlighter over the Bobbi Brown one, not only for the price and value for money, but because I actually prefer the product better. Which is always a bonus 🙂
Have you tried either of these products?
