OUAI Haircare is a new brand brought to us by celebrity hair stylists, Jen Atkin. Jen has run her hands through the hair of the Kardashians, Katy Perry, JLo… the list goes on.
She has years of experience under her belt which has helped her launch the OUAI Haircare line.
Let me give you a bit of background on my hair, much like my skin, it is dry, dehydrated and damaged – it is also very thick and I have a lot of it. (sounding good huh?) Until recently it has always been long, way beneath my waist but I took the plunge and went under the scissors and had it taken off to my shoulders. It has felt a lot healthier since, but it’s still very dry and needs help.
For years I have only used salon products on my hair so when I saw people talk about OUAI I was really dying to try it.
It recently became available at Sephora here in Australia, both online and in store, and in a recent haul video I mentioned 4 products from OUAI that I picked up – the Hair Oil, the Repair Shampoo (300mL) and Repair Conditioner (250mL), and a three pack of Treatment Masques.
The Masques I haven’t had a chance to use yet, more like I haven’t felt the need to use them yet. When I do I will review them later.
The repair shampoo retails for $43 for 300mL which is up there in price, but this shampoo cleans your hair. It is a cream consistency but it doesn’t foam so that’s something that took a while to get used to, I felt because of this I did have to go in with a second amount to be able to cover the scalp and give it a good clean. When i rinsed it out, my hair felt so squeaky clean, it almost felt like I had used a clarifying shampoo which had stripped everything out of my hair.
The repair conditioner retails for $40 for 250mL – the conditioner is the opposite of the shampoo, it has oil infused into it and because of that, a little of this goes a long way. I felt for the first time ever, that i could get away with using a small amount of conditioner and not have to use double the amount compared to shampoo. Leave it on for a few minutes and wash it out and your hair feels soft and smooth.
The shampoo and conditioner leave a fresh salon smell, nothing too strong – just a nice clean scent.
The Ouai Hair Oil retails for $43 for 45mL – It has to be one of my favourite hair oils I have used. It is super lightweight and doesn’t leave an oily residue when used on dry hair. I tend to apply it on wet hair after washing as it is also acts as a heat protectant. This really helps tame frizz which is a huge problem I have. Once my hair is dry and styled it is left soft and really shiny. The one downside to the hair oil is that it is highly fragranced – it has a really strong floral fragrance (remember giving Granny a hug and smelling like her strong perfume for hours??). I feel the scent lingers for quite a while – I am now used to it, but if you are very sensitive for scents, maybe give this one a try before buying to make sure it doesn’t give you a headache.
I am blown away by the OUAI Haircare brand, my hair is left soft and shiny, and more importantly I can go longer before needing to wash my hair again. I am dying to get my hands on the dry shampoo and to try out more products from this range.
Have you tried OUAI? What products do you think I should try next?
