Jeffree Star Cosmetics is another brand to jump on the liquid lipstick bandwagon and bring out their own line. Currently they ONLY sell the velour Liquid Lipsticks, but I have seen some photos on Instagram of eyeshadow prototypes out there so I am super excited to see what else that add to their makeup range.
They currently have a range of 10 shades, with lots more in the pipe line. Lipstick Republic have been stocking them for some months now, but recently got a new shipment of the most recent colours so I jumped on them when they arrived
Their shades aren’t for the faint hearted, there are a couple of nudes but the rest are some serious colours and certainly a brand to reach for if you want to step outside your comfort zone.
Here is a video where I try all the shades on and give my initial thoughts – I go into more depth below so keep reading…
The packaging certainly stands out with shorter, thicker see-through tubes and hot pink lids. You can certainly see these first in a huge pile of lip products. I also like that you can see through the tubes as you can see how much there is and if the product has separated at all which I find liquid lipsticks can do if you leave them sitting there.
The colours I have are:
I’m Nude – which is a very light nude. It it way to pale for my skin tone so it’s not one I would wear again to be honest. It applies a little patchy and sketchy so you do need to work with this colour a bit when applying
 – is a neon pinkish coral. This is again a little too pale for my personal preference. They do state that it would suit any skin tone. I had a problem with this shade as it felt a bit tingly and irritating on my lips. I initially thought it was because my lips were sore from swatching, but I forgot to take photos of this colour and had to put it back on and I noticed the irritation again. The formulation is also very streaky and patchy and appears to be way too drying. Instantly my lips were dry and every line was accentuated. Not cute!
Anna Nicole is a bright orangey red which I think is beautiful. A nice statement lip colour. This formula is sightly better than the lighter ones, still applies a little patchy so some work is needed but if you are a fan or orange lips, then you might really like this one.
Prom Night – A bright blue based hot pink. My favourite shade in any lip product. (you can see my Top 5 Hot Pink lipsticks here) This formulation is thick and creamy, it doesn’t feel drying at all on the lips and it applies really easily. I would say this is my favourite one from the lot.
Redrum– is a rich cool red shade. It has similar formulation to ‘Prom Night’ and is very easily to apply. This doesn’t feel at all drying on the lips and I really like this one as a bold red lip.
I’m Royalty – is a deep blue based royal purple. This shade is very bright, very opaque and not for everyone. Personally I love it, but the only thing I would say is it makes my teeth look a touch blue which I am not a fan of. If it didn’t do that I would love it more!
Weirdo is a matte black. Not a shade I will wear on an every day basis, but if black lipstick is your thing then it would be good to get as it does last a long time. I do like having a black lipstick in my collection because they can come in handy at times. This is very opaque and a little unforgiving with any application errors so a steady hand and some concealer will go a long way!
Here are some photos of the shades swatched on my arm.
A few things to mention is this formula is very wet to apply and will take a good few minutes to dry. Something to keep in mind so you don’t accidentally smudge the lipstick while it’s drying.
The other thing is a warning that comes on the website and I think is important…
(tips before use: exfoliate then apply to bare lips! avoid food with oil… and no making out, kisses are ok!)
Coming from personal experience, different brands have these smudge-proof, ‘nothing will make this leave your lips’ claims, which is great, we are all for never having to touch up lip products. I learn the oil thing the hard way, I was wearing a Lime Crime lipstick and was eating a salad… after a few mouthfuls the oils in the salad dressing had broken it down and it had smeared all over my face and I looked like the Joker. It was horrible and something that everyone needs to know… I am glad they mention no oily food on their website.
Over all I really do like these liquid lipsticks, mainly because how they feel on the lips. (with the exception of ) They are some of the least drying feeling liquid lipsticks I have tried and I love the colour range.
